The 2017 Pushup Challenge

Get Stronger in 2017

This is not a resolution thing for me. This is more of a “get off your ass again” kind of thing. It’s also a “your birthday is coming up and you want to get better as you get older” kind of thing.

It’s also a Goku thing. Specifically Gokuflex.

Ironically, the man is built like an Anime powerhouse.

I started watching Gokuflex (aka Matt Kido) videos about a month ago, and he has definitely motivated me. It was a mix of his DBZ angle connecting with my inner (and not so inner) nerd, and his practical approach to nutrition and fitness, that appealed to me. In any case, I saw his New Year’s video and it gave me an idea. A goal.

That goal: 2017 pushups in 2017.

Now there’s no way I’m doing two thousand pushups in five hours. I’m just not at that point physically. I don’t think I’ll even do them in five days. But I plan on working out a little more regularly than I currently am. With that, I’ll incorporate pushups into the workout. I’ll also do them when I’m not working out. If I’m at home playing World of Warcraft and I’m taking a flight path, I’ll knock out five or ten pushups while my toon is in the air. If I’m in a BG and I’m waiting for the start timer to tick down, I’ll bang out another quick few.

What’s the point, you might ask? It’s about two things really: getting stronger, and getting active. It’s something anyone can do. If you started today and did six pushups a day – we’re talking two when you wake up, two at lunch, and two before bed – you’ll Achievement Ding your 2017 pushup goal by December. And you’ll be 2017 pushups stronger than you were in 2016.

As gamers, that’s what we do – we build up our avatars by gaining experience points and improve their weapons and gear. We make them stronger. I plan on doing the same thing with myself.

That’s the bottom line, whether it’s in WoW or RL – Get Stronger.

I’m planning on doing the challenge this year. I will succeed. I will get this achievement. How about you?

Time Management

What the Hell? Seriously? What am I doing with my life when I’ve capped out the number of characters I can make on an entire World of Warcraft account! Sure I’ve got an entire server full of toons making gold so I can continue to play for free. Sure I’ve got a bunch of toons here and there.

I don’t even have that much playtime. Why have so many toons?

I’m sure this isn’t a big deal for most people, and it’s probably a different kind of issue for others. But for me, seeing that message was like a red flag. I play casually, so that message was a little friendly reminder that there are so many hours in a day, and I don’t want to waste the precious few WoW-hours I have just dabbling here and there. That’s for people with disposable time. Folks that have the luxury to sit around for hours a day, staring at their monitor, texting or chatting with other folks in a video game.

I have my routine. Log in, run through my horde server to get my gold, and maybe do work with one or two characters. Now it looks like I need to go through the server list and put some of these lowbie toons in the crosshairs. I’m going to want to make a Demon Hunter, maybe a couple of them, who knows. So it’s time to take my game time back by putting some of these soft lowbies in the crosshairs and pull the trigger.

Have you maxed out the number of characters on your World of Warcraft account? On a server?

Death Knight Artifact Talent Trees

Okay Rokkstars, I know people are stoked about getting artifact weapons in Legion. I know I am. It’ll be nice not to have to worry about looking for weapons, like, for the entire expansion. I’ll just have the one (or two in the case of my Death Knight) that I need to focus on and level up. Other folks seem to be jazzed for lore reasons, which makes sense since some of these artifacts have some name value behind them. We did get a taste of this lore in the Frost Death Knight Artifact Quest, which really tends to beef up the awesomeness of possessing iconic weapons.

As if trying to figure out own talents weren’t bad enough, we now have to plan out the talent trees of our artifact weapons. My boy Hazzed was kind enough to put together a video that explained the talents for the Death Knight artifact. Getting this kind of information early will make everything much easier to do once Legion goes live.

Check out the video from Hazzed – Death Knight Artifact Talent Tree.

Let’s go through some of the obvious bullet points here:

  • I enjoy playing Death Knights.
  • I have several Death Knight characters on my account.
  • I plan on playing a Death Knight in Legion.

Now let’s go through some other factoids.

  • I don’t have access to the Legion alpha.
  • I am okay with this.

Some people might find that last bit kind of odd. But I don’t have the patience for testing, and I certainly don’t want to play a buggy game. I’m okay with waiting until the expansion goes live, and even then I wouldn’t mind waiting a few days just to have things a bit less congested.

Now even though I’m not playing any part of the expansion, I like hearing about things that should be going live when everything is done testing. Things like artifacts, aka the only weapon we’ll be using in Legion.

Bellular released a very impressive video regarding the Lich King Artifact Quest for Frost Death Knights. It was impressive for a couple of reasons. First, the quest looks easy enough to do. Second, the graphics and animations look much better than they do currently.

So check out Bellular’s video – Frost Death Knight Lich King Artifact Quest.
